What is it? IPL or Intense Pulsed Light uses various light frequencies to target pigmentation in hair, veins or skin. That is why a tanned skin and some darker ethnic skins are not suitable for IPL treatments.
Who? In Takapuna, Ponsonby and Remuera we have very experienced therapists who specialize in IPL and anti-ageing therapies. All our IPL therapists are highly trained and confident in performing IPL treatments.
Which machine? We use the top of the line Energist machine in our spas which is a highly powered machine offering great results. If you are comparing prices for IPL services, it is important to understand that a lesser quality machine may be cheaper in price, but you may well require more treatments so it may not be cheaper in the long run.
Permanent Hair Reduction: The light output from the applicator is preferentially absorbed by the melanin (colour) in the hair. This then heats up the hair follicle and disables the hair germination cells so it cannot grow back. It works well on the face, underarms and bikini (standard/extended or Brazilian), and can also be used for legs, arms, necks and backs. Most clients require 4-6 treatments, usually 4 weeks apart as hair grows in cycles. Each cycle IPL deals to the hair that is present at that time, so it can vary between individuals. An annual maintenance treatment is sometimes required.
Does it hurt? The treatment has been likened to being flicked by a hair brush, and the skin may go slightly red for a few hours. The degree of "ouch" factor depends on the area being treated and the individuals pain tolerance.
What price: Hair removal treatments range start at $79. And remember this is permanent hair reduction. While it is more expensive initially than waxing, once you have had your course of treatments you will only need the occasional maintenance treatment.
